Beginner Wheel Pottery with Paul

Monday, July 21, 2025 (5:30 PM - 8:30 PM) (EDT)

Description

7 Mondays | July 21, 28, August 4, 11, 18, 25, Sept. 8 (No Class on Labor Day, Sept 1) | 5:30 - 8:30 PM

Weeks 1-5: Paul Sirofchuck will teach beginners centering on the wheel and cover basic throwing and trimming techniques. Students will explore ceramic forms as they make cups, bowls and other vessels, alter thrown pieces, and make and attach handles to mugs and pots. (Please note that this is a "wheel only" course. If you are looking to hand-build, check out our other offerings!) Paul will guide students in creativity while helping each student establish and work towards their goals in beginner ceramics. This class is also perfect for those who have already taken a wheel pottery class (here or elsewhere) but would like to review and expand their technique.

Week 6: After the 5th wheel session, you will have a 6th session to finish up work from previous sessions to prep for a bisque-firing (first firing) in our kiln. During this session, Mandy Sirofchuck will also instruct on the glazing process that will occur in the 7th session. Students as a group will select the glazes to be used in week 7.

Week 7: The 7th session will consist of glazing bisqued pieces. They'll then be fired and ready for pickup, typically in about 2 weeks!
