In this three-hour workshop for intermediate potters, you'll learn how to make tall, wheel-thrown pots by joining multiple sections together under the guidance of local potter Frank DeFabo. This workshop covers clay selection for large pieces, special techniques for joining and drying, and tips to ensure success. Contrary to common belief, creating tall pots doesn’t require exceptional physical strength—this method allows any potter to craft pieces 2–3 times taller than usual. Included with your registration is 25lbs of terracotta clay to use for the workshop. While the focus is on mastering the technique rather than specific projects, participants will have the opportunity to complete a terracotta planter or rhubarb forcer, which will be bisque-fired at the gallery (note: these garden pots will not be glaze-fired, as terracotta does not require glaze).
